I had serious issues after hiring TMI Certified. This site shares my experience, other's reviews & how to file a complaint
I’m a homeowner in Calgary, Alberta. After a hailstorm in August 2024, I hired TMI Certified, operated by Maxwell Tufts and Graham Tufts, to complete roofing, siding, eavestrough, and window repairs. I paid a 50% deposit upfront based on assurances of timely, professional service.
After the vinyl siding work was completed by a subcontractor, I paid the remaining balance in full, including advance payment for the remaining work (eavestrough and window repair).
Shortly afterward, I was contacted directly by the subcontractor, who informed me they had not been paid by TMI Certified, despite my having paid the company in full. The subcontractor indicated that, due to non-payment, they have placed a lien on my property.
Since then, TMI Certified has not responded to multiple attempts by both me and the subcontractor to resolve the matter.
While researching next steps, I discovered that TMI Certified was not licensed as a prepaid contractor in Alberta at the time I signed the contract and paid a deposit. Under Alberta law, contractors who accept deposits over $1,000 or contracts over $500 before beginning work must be licensed and bonded under the Consumer Protection Act. This licensing protects homeowners by ensuring financial accountability. Had I been aware of this at the time, I would have reconsidered the agreement.
Since then, I’ve come across other public reviews and online posts describing similar issues involving unpaid contractors and incomplete work.
This website was created to document my personal experience, help others who may be dealing with the same business, and provide resources for reporting concerns. Based on what I’ve learned, this business has operated under multiple names, including TMI Certified and Tufts Management Inc.
I encourage others to do their own research, share their stories if they’ve had a similar experience, and contact the appropriate authorities or consumer protection agencies. Scroll down for guidance on how to file a complaint in to various agencies.
